Missing those annual summer art fairs in Michigan this year?
The new Michigan Holiday Art Fair shares the delights and creative finds of a summer art fair ONLINE this holiday season! It gives you the opportunity to buy gifts from artists who would have normally sold creative work at six Michigan art fairs.

Buy gifts this year (or something for yourself!) from nearly 60 artists and check out just once in the online cashier.

Artist demonstrations, virtual studio tours and art activities will take place nightly (daily on the weekend dates). Santa and Mrs. Claus and local musicians will pop in online too.

Each date between December 1-6, a portion of all sales will benefit one of 6 Detroit area nonprofits. People for Palmer Park day is Saturday, Dec. 5th so we hope you'll shop that day to support us AND some amazing artists.

PGA Tour brings street closures to Palmer Park

6/28/2020

Unlike last year's inaugural event at the Detroit Golf Club, this year's Rocket Mortgage Classic is not open to the general public due to COVID-19 restrictions. But there are still some road closures affecting Palmer Park the week of June 29-July 5, 2020.

2020 Rocket Mortgage Classic
Street Closure Plan

Monday, June 29th - Sunday, July 5th
6:00am-8:00pm,  Pontchartain Blvd. will be closed for tournament traffic only between 7 Mile and Merrill Plaisance during these event hours only each day.

Plans are subject to change under the discretion of Detroit Police & Security.

The Rocket Giving Fund's mission is to host a world-class PGA TOUR event while simultaneously benefiting the Detroit community. The Organization's primary fundraising activity is the Rocket Mortgage Classic, Detroit's annual PGA TOUR event. The net proceeds realized by the event and other such activities and events will support its new "Changing the Course" initiative in partnership with Rocket Mortgage, a multi-year campaign with a vision that every Detroit resident has access to the internet, technology and digital literacy training they deserve within five years.

The COVID-19 pandemic has shined a light on a number of unaddressed underlying issues in Detroit - internet accessibility being one of the most severe. The mission of "Changing the Course" is a Detroit where every resident has access to the technology, internet and digital literacy that is the baseline for education and opportunity in today's economy, and the initiative will invest funds in organizations and infrastructure that seek to ensure SG internet technology becomes available across Detroit.

People for Palmer Park announces that it is a proud Community Partner for the upcoming 2019 Rocket Mortgage Classic, and we join the City of Detroit in welcoming the PGA Tour to the historic Detroit Golf Club for the first time, June 24-30, 2019.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES DURING THE TOURNAMENT
From June 24-30, 2019, The Rocket Mortgage Classic (RMC) will bring 156 of golf's greatest players, as well as an international television audience and visitors from around the world to our city, the Detroit Golf Club and to the neighborhoods adjacent to Palmer Park this June.

As a backdrop, volunteers are an integral part of the operations of all PGA Tour events. More than 100,000 volunteers annually contribute countless hours helping orchestrate more than 120 tournaments in all aspects from admissions and guest services to marshals and scoring.

Interested in learning more about volunteering? Visit the RMC Volunteer Registration site for more information. Spaces are limited, so be sure to register early as committees will be filled on a first come, first served basis.
  • Please note that the Rocket Mortgage Classic is run by the PGA Tour. People for Palmer Park is a community partner and cannot register you to volunteer.
  • Full details about the tournament, tickets and other news can be found at the Rocket Mortgage website. Or contact Noelle Johnston at njohnston@intersportnet.com or at 313-329-5699.

RENT YOUR HOME TO VISITORS DURING THE TOURNAMENT
ADDITIONALLY,
The Rocket Mortgage Classic has partnered with Rent Like A Champion to provide private home listings to players and their families to rent for the week of June 24th. Rent Like A Champion is the largest vacation home rental website specifically for sporting events nationwide and has worked with professional golfers at PGA events around the country, helping to provide the comfort and convenience of a private home during tournaments.
  • If  you are interested in your home being included on this listing for the 2019 Rocket Mortgage Classic, please contact Denise Wright at denise@rentlikeachampion.com or at 855-244-4263 for more information.

As more details unfold in the months before the tournament begins, People for Palmer Park will continue to share more ways you can get involved and be a part of the excitement!

Sunday, July 29 • 4-7 pm
Silent Auction • Garden Party • Food & Wine

Enjoy a summertime party in the beautiful Frank Lloyd Wright Turkel home and gardens to raise funds for People for Palmer Park’s "Light up the Cabin" campaign. Funds raised will help update electricity in the cabin, restore original lighting fixtures, and other restoration work in Senator & Mrs. Palmer’s 1880s Historic Log Cabin, a unique and important Detroit landmark and cornerstone of Palmer Park. Funds will also support People for Palmer Park's ongoing efforts to revitalize and beautify Palmer Park. Tickets, $75, for this event are limited and in the past have sold out very quickly.

Enjoy wine, delicious locally-prepared food, and the magnificent gardens — plus tour a portion of the Turkel home. People for Palmer Park welcomes you and thanks our hosts, Norm Silk and Dale Morgan, owners of this treasured home and Blossoms Birmingham and Blossoms Detroit. They saved their historic home, once neglected and foreclosed, and now they are helping save the Palmer Park Log Cabin.

We will also have a fabulous silent auction with hand-crafted jewelry, artwork, gift certificates to restaurants, hotels, events and other special opportunities!

You will be sent a map, address, parking directions and more details the week of the event. For more info contact barbara@peopleforpalmerpark.org or call Barbara Barefield, 313-891-2514.
