Arts & Culture at Palmer Park

Log Cabin Sundays

Free Concerts • Art Classes • Storytelling • Events

The Log Cabin Sundays series continues this summer and fall with music, storytelling, dancing, and creative art workshops. Each event will include StoryTime with interactive magical tales and free book give-aways from Brilliant Detroit. All these cultural events and activities inside and around the Cabin are being programmed with support from a Detroit Chamber/GM NeighborHUB grant and will continue through the fall.

Fabulous, free concerts for the PFPP’s Earth Tones series — featuring some of Detroit’s most outstanding jazz and adventurous musicians — will be held outside the Palmer Park Log Cabin. Bring a chair or blanket, your favorite beverages and picnics and all you friends! Food trucks, popups, book giveaways and more!

    Saxophonist  Wendell Harrison & Tribe with opening performance by Say Less (Louis Jones and Jordan Anderson)
  • Sunday, September 15, 4-7 pm –
    Harpist Ahya Simone with opening performance by William Sun Wang Trio

Art Making & Skill Building

Curated by the Arts and Culture Committee these events showcase art making and skill building in the park. Creative fun for all ages summer-fall. 
2024 Programming 

June 16
Celebrate Father’s Day
with Jiggle & Juggle!
  • 1 pm: Zumba Fitness with MCSDA is a movement immersive journey that combines the power of music, dance, and a touch of adventure. The focus is dance, but the benefits of a workout go beyond just fitness with laughter, singing, friendship and to de-stress with peace and love.
  • 2-3:30 pm: Juggling with Wendy for kids 7-12 at 2 pm and for adults at 3 pm. Participants will receive a set of practice balls to take home. Sign up to at palmerparkjuggling.eventbrite.com

Gathering Arts &B Dancing Sharks
  • 1 pm: Natural Dying w/Mandisa Smith - Dying and printing with foraged plants on fabrics
  • 1 pm: "UpRootED" Nature Sculptures w/ Ijeoma Landscapes using native plants and materials from the park
  • 1-3 pm: Brilliant Detroit Storytime and book giveaways
  • 2:30 pm: House Music Family Dance Party 
August 18 - 
Indigo Dying, Spinning & Weaving
  • 1 pm: Indigo Dying w/Najma Wilson - Learn the history of the indigenous Indigo plant of Africa and India and engage in various techniques to create unique patterns on cloth
  • 1-3 pm: Weaving & Sewing w/Michael Daitch - All ages (especially for children), weaving demo; create a handmade woven bag
  • 2:30pm: Intro to Spinning Yarn w/Lynette Hunter Halalay - A journey of creativity and sustainability where you'll craft your own spinning tool from recycled materials and learn the ancient art of yarn spinning needed to transform fibers into beautiful yarn
  • 2-4 pm: Brilliant Detroit Storytime and book giveaways
September 15 -

  • 1 pm: Dance Party w/Fast Freddy

About the Arts and Culture Committee
The Arts and Culture Committee of People for Palmer Park is committed to organizing, presenting and advancing art, creativity, imagination and culture in Detroit’s Palmer Park. The committee is composed of volunteer artists, musicians, arts professionals and lovers of the arts who are working to support a thriving, creative environment at Palmer Park through diverse cultural programming that is free, open to the public and family friendly.
