A piece of history from the early days of the historic courts.

Officially reopened in October 2018.
Commissioned in 1950, Palmer Park's historic Handball Courts have hosted many national handball championships and racquetball matches including the U.S. Handball Association National Three-Wall Championship from 1950-1972.

A group of area handball enthusiasts, many of whom had played here, have been working with great determination to restore the historic courts and they are now ready for play thanks to these efforts. Funds were raised for painting, tuck-pointing, sports fence, court surface refinishing, and area beautification and People for Palmer Park and the City of Detroit lent their support.

The refurbished facility, reopened officially in October 2018, will now allow not only great play, but will also provide a place for current handball and racquetball players to "play the game forward." Workshops for young Detroiters will introduce them to a game that builds skills and character.

For more information on handball at Palmer Park, visit http://www.mhandball.org/Palmer-Park
For general questions about the courts and when people play, email sshevin@comcast.net

The courts are located just west of Woodward Ave. and north of McNichols, just behind the tennis courts. Park on Merrill Plaisance or Woodward Ave.
NOTE: CARS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO DRIVE UP INTO THE COURT AREA.
