City seeks community input in public Joe Louis Greenway Project meetings at Palmer Park

1/14/2019

Saturday, January 19th, 2019
at the Palmer Park Community House
11am-1pm and 2-4pm

Come share your thoughts on a future walking and biking route crossing 31.5 miles of Detroit and let the city know how to make this greenway work for you! Get involved in the preliminary stages of the Joe Louis Greenway by viewing the finalists’ proposals for the planning framework and participating in a Q&A with the city officials and consulting firms behind its development. The meeting will be at the Palmer Park Community House from 11 am - 1 pm and again from 2 - 4 pm

The Joe Louis Greenway (JLG), named after Detroit boxing legend, will be a new 31.5-mile recreational pathway connecting neighborhoods across the city and to the rest of the region. The Greenway' project will be a combination of new infrastructure and links to existing but disjointed trails, ultimately providing a safe and efficient loop around the city, with connections from 8 Mile all the way to the Detroit Riverfront, all without a car. The greenway is expected to stabilize neighborhoods, create jobs, support transportation, and create new spaces for play citywide. This will be a greenway for every Detroiter.

The Palmer Park Community House is the colorful painted building next to the Splash Pad at the split of Merrill Plaisance and Pontchartrain.

Meetings are also set up as events on our Facebook page so it's easier to invite community -

Come discover the beauty, the history and the current
excitement of a revitalized Palmer Park!

SATURDAY, MAY 5, 2018 - 10am-2pm

Jane's Walk is an annual festival of free, citizen-led walking conversations inspired by writer, urbanist and activist, Jane Jacobs. We are happy to be a part of such a great event again, this time FROM PALMER PARK!

Jane's Walks encourage people to share stories about their neighborhoods, discover secret stops and favorite places.

The walk is free and starts and ends near the Palmer Park Community House / Splash Park where Pontchartrain meets Merrill Plaisance between 6 and 7 Mile, west of Woodward. Dress accordingly, we will be on trails that could be wet and muddy.

Join the Detroit walk's official Facebook event here.

As "A park for the good of everyone," promoting activities and events that support ALL ages, young and old, is something People for Palmer Park takes pride in. We're happy to support one such upcoming event...

Take a one or three mile walk around Detroit’s Palmer Park on a bright & sunny Saturday on September 24th and support our growing senior population.
“Strides for Seniors” is a month-long campaign focusing on key issues facing older adults, brought to you by 20 Detroit senior centers and agencies – and spearheaded by St. Patrick Senior Center and the Detroit Area Agency on Aging (DAAA). The month wraps up with the health walk and expo at the park on September 24. The walk starts at 10 AM, and registration is just $25 including the Strides t-shirt. Sign up yourself – or pull a team together! As the senior population grows, funding for programs remains a challenge and support is more important than ever.

To sign up, visit the website at StridesforSeniors.org.
